Protect Roanoke.

Fight Government Surveillance.

Ban Flock Cameras.

Why Roanoke should reject Flock cameras

Government surveillance is growing at an alarming rate. Yet, despite what advocates say, the fact is that it unnecessarily invades our privacy, threatens our rights and safety, and has life-altering consequences for innocent people that far outweigh any potential benefits.

Most concerning is the potential for deliberate abuse.  In a time where we see unprecendented abuses of power by federal government agencies, we believe that it is imperative our local leaders do all that they can to protect us, not help build an apparatus ripe for oppression and corruption.

We believe that the negative effects of law enforcement have always disproportionately affected POC, immigrants, the poor and working class communities and mass surveillance is no different.

We believe in a City Council that will make investments in the future of our city that create opprotunity, equity, and prosperity for all citizens.  We reject the idea that a government camera on every corner will help us achieve any of those things.

We believe that oversight and safeguards are not enough, and we demand an end to mass government surveillance in Roanoke.
